Using continuous EEG data, researchers in Boston, USA, were able to predict successful discontinuation of anesthesia in patients with refractory status epilepticus (RSE).
Anesthesia is often used in RSE to suppress seizures, but few data are available to help guide clinicians on how and when to wean patients off anesthesia.
Dr Daniel Rubin and colleagues at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA, evaluated quantitative measures of EEG activity during anesthesia weaning in patients with RSE. They then used novel analytic techniques to help predict successful weaning.
